  • I am 5'9", 150 lbs with a 29" waste, and I will not be wearing a wetsuit or knee pads underneath. From my calculations converting the cm to inches on the sizing chart that I saw, it looks like I should order a small. Can you please let me know if that is correct or if I would be better off with a medium.

Hey Ed, thanks for reaching out!  Unlike the Titan suits, the Fornocal Pants tend to be a little more true-to-size; therefore, I think that a Small would be a solid choice for you.  Let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with.  In the meantime, have a great weekend!

  • Do the sizes (S, M, L) match up pretty well with American sizes? I'm 5'9, 150-160 lbs, 31" waist. I wear medium for most clothes. Is medium a good choice for these pants and the jacket? Also, I like my pants to fit OVER my kneepads and wellies. Are the legs roomy enough for that?

Thanks for reaching out, Eric. You should fall right on a medium. I am a similar size, wear my kneepads (and boots) underneath, and a medium gives me a the freedom of mobility that I want in cave attire. Let me know if there’s anything else that I can help you with.

  • Are the AV Fornocal pants totally waterproof?

Hey Kevin, thanks for dropping us a line.  The AV Fornocal pants, Taka, and Titans are all made and coated w/ a hydrophobic material.  It is highly water resistant (but waterproof) which allows the material to breathe and vent out condensation.  The fabric falls somewhere between Cordura (very breathable / not water resistant) and PVC (not breathable / completely waterproof).  In my experience, the Fornocal, Taka, and Titan fabric is a much more versitale material than Cordura or PVC.

They are durable and they look nice.

I have a pair in L and M, the L were a bit big without a wet suit on. I seem to be sized between the M and the L. I do find the M a bit tight but it doesn't seem to interfere with movement. I would recommend them but they are pricey.

Size Large

I'm 5'11", 185 pounds. The large is a little bit big in the waist but the belt can be cinched down so it isn't an issue. The pants fit perfectly everywhere else. One year of hard caving every weekend and the pants are still doing great!

Questioning the size chart for the waist.

The pants fit great. The size chart was confusing, misleading. I fell in between med. and large and felt the medium would be to small. Fortunately a friend had purchased a large that I could try on, and found out it's size was much larger than posted. I ordered the medium and it was large but still fit. They should list the maximum size person they will fit.

Not a normal piece of equipment where I am but.....

I really enjoyed using them!! I canyoneer a lot in the Southern Utah area. I was headed for a canyon that is know to eat wetsuits. I purchased the pants and the coat to wear over my wetsuit. They protected my wetsuit and allowed me to move more freely in the canyon. I wear knee and elbow pads over this 2-piece suit. I found the suit provided less friction allowing me to move more freely overall. I will continue to use it.
